Drinking enough water can be your best anti-aging secret.
Water makes up two-thirds of the weight of the human body. Without water, humans would die in a few days. It is the basis for all the fluids in the body, and all our cells and organs need water to function.
Water is needed for most body functions to :
Maintain the health and integrity of every cell in the body.
Keep the bloodstream fluid enough to flow through the blood vessels.
Help eliminate the byproducts of the body’s metabolism, excess electrolytes, and urea (waste product formed in protein processing).
Regulates body temperature through the process of sweating.
Moisten the mucous membranes, such as the mouth, nose, and lungs.
Lubricate and cushion the joints.
Help keep the bladder clear of bacteria.
Aids digestion.
Carry nutrients and oxygen to cells.
Someone would need to increase their water intake if they are :
On a high protein diet.
Pregnant or breastfeeding. There again, what goes out must be replaced.
We are experiencing vomiting or diarrhea.
Physically active.
How is water essential for my skin?
With skin being the largest organ of our body and our first line of defense in warding off pathogens such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses, it is critical that we keep it as healthy as possible. One of the best ways to keep it healthy is to stay hydrated so our skin stays intact without dryness and cracks.
Without adequate water, skin appears duller, and pores and wrinkles are more prominent. Properly hydrated skin is plump, more elastic, and has—a healthy glow. I don’t know about you, but if I can smooth out some of those fine lines and wrinkles by drinking more water daily, point me toward the nearest water source!
I thought my hair only needed water for washing!
No, that’s not the only reason your hair needs water, friends! Water means hydration, and drinking enough water can bring more nutrients to the derma papilla, where hair life begins, making the hair stronger, bouncier, and shinier. I should also add that our body is brilliant and knows to send all the good stuff to vital organs and systems first. So our eyes, brain, heart, and digestive system take what they need for survival, and our hair gets the leftovers. It is essential to understand that having healthy hair is about feeding your whole body the nutrition it needs for complete health and not solely about what you are putting on your hair.
Ways to increase your water intake.
Use a container that measures or shows how much you are taking in.
Infuse your water with lemon, cucumber, or berries to add flavor.
Eat your water. Cucumber, watermelon, and grapefruit have high water content and make a healthy snack.
Drink a glass of water after each bathroom visit. What goes out must be replenished.
Practice the “One for one “ rule. For each glass of wine or alcoholic beverage, drink a glass of water. You will feel better, and your morning self will thank you!
